Launched in September 2024, the Quipá Collection is inspired by the fascinating plant Tacinga inamoena, popularly known in Brazil as quipá. Created especially for the New York City Jewelry Week (NYCJW), this collection celebrates the beauty and resilience of Brazil’s semi-arid region, particularly the Caatinga biome.
Tacinga inamoena is an endemic cactus species from the Caatinga, belonging to the Cactaceae family. Perfectly adapted to Brazil’s harsh semi-arid climate, this remarkable plant thrives among rocks and under intense sunlight, showcasing extraordinary resilience and an impressive ability to survive in arid environments. Its vibrant yellow and red flowers are pollinated by birds, and its fruits are consumed by both animals and humans, playing a vital role in the regeneration and conservation of the species.
The Quipá Collection was a journey of discovery and enchantment. Each piece reflects the ingenious adaptations of Tacinga inamoena, such as its sharp spines — which help it withstand temperatures of up to 122°F (50°C) by significantly reducing water loss. Its striking orange-to-reddish flowers are not only beautiful but also edible.
During the creative process, Lucineire Feltrin was deeply moved by the resilience and beauty of this plant. Tacinga inamoena is not only hardy and stunning, but also a nutritional powerhouse. Its fruits, often consumed fresh, are rich in essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium — all fundamental for bone health, muscle function, and fluid balance in the body. Versatile in culinary use, they can be transformed into sweets, jams, syrups, and even ice creams, adding an exotic and nourishing touch to countless recipes.
The Quipá Collection is a celebration of the richness and diversity of the Caatinga biome — and a tribute to the importance of preserving and valuing native species. Each piece is an homage to Tacinga inamoena and Brazil’s semi-arid landscape, reflecting the plant’s beauty, resilience, and nutritional wealth.
